What this site stores on your device, what reaches the server and what your rights are.
In short
- No cookies, and no analytics, advertising or tracking code.
- One thing may be stored on your device, and only if you choose it: your light or dark theme.
- What you type into a tool stays in your browser. The part of the address after the # sign never reaches our server.
- Our web server keeps logs of the requests it handles.
- Links marked Ad take you to amazon.co.uk. Once you are there, Amazon's own privacy and cookie notices apply.
Who is responsible for my data?
Find Your Size is run by one person who likes finding the published rule behind a size.
We keep the access log, and any email you send, because we have a legitimate interest in running and securing the site and in answering you.
Our web host keeps the access log for as long as its own policy sets; we do not download it or keep copies.
We keep emails for no more than 12 months after our last reply.
Who is responsible for my data?
Find Your Size is run by one person, as the line at the foot of every page says. That person is responsible for the personal data this site receives: the server logs and any email you send.
Our hosting company's server keeps those logs. To ask about your data or to use your rights, email us at the address on the contact page.
Does this site use cookies?
No, this site uses no cookies. It runs no analytics, advertising or tracking code either. Every font, script and image comes from this site itself, so loading a page makes no request to any other website.
The ICO says the cookie rules also apply to any other way of storing information on your device, so the next section sets out the one thing this site can store, and when.

What does this site store on my device?
This site stores only your theme choice, and only if you make one. When you press the Dark theme button, the half-filled circle at the top of each page, your browser keeps the word light or dark in its local storage for this site, under the name theme, so the next page opens in the same theme.
Nothing is stored before you press it, and nothing else is stored. Until you press it, pages follow your device's own light or dark setting.
To remove your choice, clear this site's data in your browser. If your browser blocks storage, your choice lasts only for the page you are on.
What happens to the measurements I type?
The measurements you type stay in your browser, which works out the answer on the page itself. When you get an answer, the tool adds your entries to the end of the page address, after the # sign, so that you can bookmark, copy or share the result. Depending on the tool, that part of the address holds:
- Bed and mattress sizes: the size you pick, or the width and length you type, and the unit.
- TV size: your distance from the screen, its unit and the picture resolution you choose.
- Kids' bike size: the inside leg and height you type, and the unit.
That part of the address never reaches our server. The web address standard says it is "dereferenced solely by the user agent", which is your browser.

If you copy, bookmark or share a result link, your entries go wherever you put that link.
Without JavaScript the tools cannot work. If you press Find my size anyway, the options you picked, such as a size, a unit or a resolution, are sent in the page address, so they reach the server log; a measurement you typed is never sent.
What reaches the server when I visit?
Your browser's request for each page and file reaches the server, as with any website. The web server keeps an access log, which records every request it handles. In the commonly used Combined Log Format, each entry holds:
Source: Apache HTTP Server 2.4, log files (external site) checked
- the IP address of the device that asked for the page
- the date and time of the request
- the page or file asked for, without the part after the # sign
- whether it was found, and the size of the reply
- the page that linked to it, as your browser reports it, which never includes the part after the # sign
- the identifying details your browser reports about itself
Sources: Apache HTTP Server 2.4, log files (external site) checked ; IETF RFC 3986, web address syntax (external site) checked ; IETF RFC 9110, HTTP semantics (external site) checked
The site has no accounts, no sign-up or contact forms and no analytics, so the server's logs are the only record of a visit: the access log above, and an error log, which notes the address of a device whose request ran into a problem.

What happens when I follow a link marked Ad?
Links marked Ad take you to amazon.co.uk. Once you are there, Amazon's own privacy and cookie notices apply.
For every link to another website, including the makers and other sources we cite, our pages ask your browser to send that website only this site's address, not the page you were on. Nothing you typed into a tool goes with the link.

What happens if I email you?
If you email us, we receive your email address and your message, and we use them only to reply and, if you report a mistake, to correct the page. Mail sent to our address is received by the company that hosts the site and forwarded to a Gmail inbox, run by Google, where it is kept.
Apart from the server logs, an email you choose to send is the only personal information this site receives.
What are my rights over my data?
Under the UK GDPR you have the right to a copy of any personal data we hold about you, to have it corrected if it is wrong, to ask for it to be erased, and to ask us to restrict how we use it. The contact page says how to reach us.

You also have the right to object to our use of your personal data in certain circumstances.

If you are unhappy with how we handled your personal information, you can complain to the ICO. Before you start, the ICO asks for a copy of the complaint you made to the organisation, so please write to us first.

Will this page change?
Yes, this page changes whenever the site starts to store or send anything new, such as analytics, or product prices and photos. It changes at the same time as the site, and the date at the top shows the last change.
